Day1:
Our first stop was at Broadway Dance Center located on 44th street. We joined Theater dance class with famous Jacob Brent. It was a great experience for all participants. Jacob Brent is best known for his role as Mr. Mistoffelees in the video production of CATS. He also performed in the Broadway and London productions when they broke the record for longest running shows, being the only person to perform in all three productions. Jacob was also in the original production of Starlight Express in Las Vegas.
Second stop at AADA was amazing. Founded in 1884, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts is the first conservatory for actors in the English-speaking world. Since then, its purpose has remained constant: To provide students with the tools needed to make acting their profession. We had a chance to attend a private acting class and a campus tour. Acting workshop was couched by Barbara Rubin and her two assistants – graduating students. Barbara Rubin made her Off Broadway directorial debut at The Women’s Project in 2004 and continues to direct locally and internationally. Barbara also works as a dialect coach for theater and film. She has coached such luminaries as Hilary Swank, Terence Howard, Jennifer Hudson and Academy graduate Elias Koteas.
Group campus tour allowed us to visit and see classrooms on campus, the performing spaces, get audition tips and receive information on admissions, financial services and scholarship
Third stop was at famous Winter Garden Theater where we got a chance to see our teacher Vincent Oddo in action on a stage. Yes we went to see Rocky The Musical written by the one and only Mr. Sylvester Stallone. It was an amazing experience. All actors and dancers were very professional. Of course the most popular parts were famous Eye Of The Tiger song and final fight.
And after the show? Our first expedition! Vincent was so nice he took us on the stage and behind to see all the props and costumes.
Day 2: We checked in Ripley – Grier studios just a few minutes before 10h00 AM. We got a great opportunity to attend a Broadway connection “Voice/Audition” master class with Rocky The Musical performer and our Broadway connection teacher, Vincent Oddo (Understudy Rocky, Fight captain). Each student had unique opportunity to work on song of their choice.
We ended our Broadway full-circle experience by seeing extraordinary Tony Awards winner Pippin The Musical that is being performed at The Music Box Theater. Thanks to great Gypsy Snider (Pippin choreographer) we could also meet & greet the actors after the show. Pippin revival is one of the shows that is “must see”. We would like to recommend this show to all New York visitors. And not only we got to meet with them. We were allowed to explore the backstage, take a picture with actors on the stage and we were introduced to all the backstage area, orchestra, costume makers. We would like to thank Ms. Gypsy Snider for such opportunity.
